Bryan White Reflects on Past Generosity and Plans New Approach for Philanthropy
In a revealing interview, socialite Bryan White, who recently returned to Uganda after a stint in Dubai, discussed his history of financial generosity with notable figures in the Ugandan entertainment industry. During the interview with Annet Nambooze, better known as Oze, he recalled a time when he gave her approximately Shs 8 million.
Oze highlighted White’s past as a lavish donor: “You gave out a lot of money. I remember there’s a time you gave me about Shs8 million.” An awkward pause followed when White inquired if she had used the money to purchase land, leading to a moment of laughter before moving on. White commented on the pattern of celebrities misleading him about their intentions for the funds.
White expressed his intention to adopt a new strategy for his philanthropic efforts to ensure that his contributions have a meaningful impact on society and genuinely help transform lives. During his peak, White was known for his close associations with numerous celebrities, some of whom were unexpected companions.
Lady Mariam Tindatine disclosed that White had plans to start paying celebrities working under his Bryan White Foundation a salary of Shs5 million. However, complications arose when singer Weasel Manizo disrupted these plans. Despite these setbacks, White remained committed to his charitable efforts, employing celebrities like Weasel and Tindatine without a clear job description but with the promise of a steady income.
Reflecting on his time in Dubai, White mentioned that his trip was for rest and not for work. Additionally, he shared anecdotes about his early involvement in the careers of prominent artists such as Bobi Wine and Jose Chameleone, claiming to have financed Chameleone’s trip to Nairobi and organized Bobi Wine’s first show in Mityana when he had only two songs.
The interview sheds light on the complexities of White’s interactions with the entertainment industry and his evolving perspective on philanthropy.
