Activists and other concerned citizens in Mbarara city, western Uganda have called for the resignation, arrest or impeachment of the Speaker of 11th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among amid grave corruption allegations against her.

This follows sanctions issued by the U.K government on April 30, 2024 against Among and former Ministers of Karamoja affairs, Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu over Karamoja ironsheets theft scandal.

The group, including professionals from different sectors under Rise Against Poverty Organization-RAP UGANDA now wants Speaker Among to hand over to Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa and immediately be investigated by anti-corruption agencies.

“We are also concerned and disappointed that President Museveni is supporting and shielding such corrupt untouchables, which indicates lack of goodwill to fight corruption. The Speaker should also stop hiding behind the anti-homosexuality act claiming that she is targeted for supporting its passage, because she wasn’t the initiator of the bill. She had many scandals before this bill was passed into law, and her corruption scandals are now escalating every day, “Aaron Ainomugisha, the leader RAP UGANDA explained.

Peter Mpaka, a pastor and political activist also accused Speaker Among for blocking accountability related reports from relevant parliamentary committees, stopping some vibrant MPs from submitting in the house, compromise, masterminding corruption and bribery, and other issues.

Other members of RAP UGANDA including Amon Ayesigomwe Rubarema, Denmark Adios, and others have also vowed to continue with massive campaigns against corrupt officials, and awakening public conscience.

They activists have called upon voters in different parts of Uganda to utilize article 84 of the 1995 constitution to recall their MPs who are sleeping on the job, and are not bothered to impeach Speaker Among and other corrupt officials.
