Robert Kyagulanyi Faces Blockade During NUP Nationwide Tour in Bundibugyo
Today, Robert Kyagulanyi, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), resumed his nationwide tour in Bundibugyo District amidst significant obstruction from the authorities. The NUPNationWideTour, aimed at engaging with citizens and addressing their concerns, faced multiple hurdles as Kyagulanyi and his team were repeatedly blocked from interacting with the local populace.
Kyagulanyi reported that the authorities prevented them from speaking on a pre-booked radio station and denied access to Booma Grounds, a venue for which they had paid in advance. “Today, they claimed that the venue was given out to another person,” Kyagulanyi stated, highlighting the consistent challenges posed by what he termed a “criminal regime.”
The disruptions did not end there. The authorities also blocked any radio announcements and mobilization efforts, closing all roads leading from other sub-counties to the town center. Supporters heading to the NUP office were turned away, further escalating tensions in the area.
Despite these significant obstacles, Kyagulanyi’s supporters showed resilience. They gathered courageously to hear his message, which he delivered briefly outside the NUP office. Kyagulanyi emphasized the importance of rising against the oppression and intimidation they face. “I told our people that the only way we shall end this humiliation and impunity in our own country is by responding to the call of duty and RISING UP. A time must come when WE THE PEOPLE say ENOUGH!” he declared.
The actions against Kyagulanyi and his supporters highlight the ongoing struggle for political freedom and fair treatment in Uganda. The NUP leader’s call to action underscores the urgency felt by many Ugandans who seek change and accountability from their government.
As the NUPNationWideTour continues, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to the increasing pressure from Kyagulanyi and his growing base of supporters. For now, the message from Bundibugyo is clear: despite intimidation and obstacles, the fight for a more just and democratic Uganda continues.
