Watoto Church, one of Uganda’s largest evangelical congregations, has dismissed one of its pastors over allegations of sexual immorality, the church leadership announced on Sunday.
In a video message broadcast to all its branches, Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, Team Leader at Watoto Church Ministries, confirmed the dismissal and described the incident as “unfortunate”, saying it undermined the core values of the institution.
“This is a sad moment for the church,” Pastor Rwotlonyo said. “We remain committed to walking in righteousness and ensuring our members and leaders are held accountable to the Word of God.”
While confirming the disciplinary action, Pastor Rwotlonyo did not reveal specific details of the alleged misconduct, citing the sensitive nature of the matter.
Commitment to Moral Standards
The church leadership reaffirmed its commitment to high moral standards and emphasized that leaders within the ministry are expected to live exemplary lives in line with biblical teachings.
Watoto Church has a significant presence in Uganda, with multiple branches, vibrant youth programs, a renowned music ministry, and various charitable initiatives. It is widely respected both locally and internationally for its community outreach efforts.
In his address, Pastor Rwotlonyo stressed that integrity among the pastoral team is essential for maintaining public trust and advancing the church’s mission.
The leadership has not indicated whether any further action, including legal proceedings, will follow the dismissal.
