Killer Mike’s recent Grammy night made headlines not only for his impressive trio of wins but also for his arrest following an alleged altercation with a security guard. Fans were eager to hear his side of the story, and on Monday morning (February 5), the Michael rapper finally addressed the incident in a call to The Big Tigger Show.
During the interview, Killer Mike provided a subtle acknowledgment of the incident, stating, “We hit a speed bump, and then we head back to the party.” The rapper was otherwise reserved about discussing the details of the altercation, choosing to focus on his Grammy victories instead.
In the interview, Killer Mike highlighted his three Grammy wins, including Best Rap Album for “Michael,” a category he expressed particular appreciation for. He emphasized his 20 years in the music industry and celebrated beating out tough competition to claim the titles of Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers.”
Proudly declaring, “The best album in the 50th year of Hip Hop came from Atlanta, Georgia, from a man who will be 50 years old in three years,” Killer Mike reflected on his significant achievements and contributions to the hip-hop genre.
Killer Mike’s last Grammy victory occurred 21 years ago with OutKast’s “The Whole World,” in which he was featured, winning Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group.
According to TMZ, the altercation leading to Killer Mike’s arrest began when he allegedly got into a physical confrontation with a security guard at the Grammys. The rapper was accused of knocking down the security guard for not moving out of his way. While video footage of the incident doesn’t show evidence of the alleged action, it captures Killer Mike facing off with multiple security personnel.
The video also captures bystanders shouting “Free Mike” as he is led away by the police. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records indicate that Killer Mike was arrested at 3:20 PM Pacific Time, booked approximately four hours later, and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 29.
