Besigye Urges Religious Leaders to Unite with Opposition for Political Change
Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has called on religious leaders to join forces with the opposition to advocate for political change in Uganda. Speaking at a rally in Masaka Liberation Square, Besigye emphasized the need for a collaborative effort involving religious leaders, civil society, and youth groups to drive political liberation and establish a new constitution that empowers state institutions to serve citizens’ interests. He highlighted the importance of overcoming fear and urged Ugandans to rise up collectively against the challenges they face under the current regime.
Besigye’s remarks were echoed by Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa, the FDC National Chairperson for the Katonga faction, who encouraged Ugandans to defy the paralyzing fear that has perpetuated their political captivity. Biriggwa also warned party members to be cautious of politicians without clear agendas for meaningful change.
Bernard Mugenyi, FDC Chairperson for Masaka district, revealed that consultations have shown strong local support for forming a new political party ahead of the next general elections. This sentiment underscores the growing demand for a unified and strategic opposition to challenge the current political landscape.
The rally in Masaka is part of a broader campaign led by Besigye to reawaken Ugandans and mobilize a robust opposition force. By involving various sectors of society, including religious institutions, the movement aims to build a more democratic and just Uganda.
