National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has strongly condemned the alleged abduction of journalist Arnold Anthony Mukose and called for his immediate release or formal prosecution if any charges exist.
Mukose, a journalist attached to Alternative Digitalk Media, was reportedly picked up on Sunday by individuals who identified themselves as security operatives shortly after he appeared on a political talk show in Kampala.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kyagulanyi described the incident as part of what he called a growing pattern of repression targeting journalists, opposition supporters, and dissenting voices in Uganda.
“Mr. Arnold Mukose, a journalist with Alternative Digitalk Media, was abducted two days ago after concluding a talk show. Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown to his family, colleagues, and lawyers,” Kyagulanyi said.
He added that if Mukose committed any offence, authorities should produce him in court and allow due process to take its course instead of holding him incommunicado.
Kyagulanyi further called upon security agencies to respect the rule of law and human rights, warning that continued abductions undermine justice and democracy.
Human rights activists and media organizations have also expressed concern over Mukose’s disappearance, calling for transparency and his immediate release.
By press time, security agencies had not yet issued an official statement regarding Mukose’s arrest or whereabouts.
