Following his arrest on Monday night, Burora was taken to Kira Division Police Station.

However, on Tuesday, the unapologetic National Resistance Movement Cadre was driven back to his residence in Ntinda by Police. Police detectives then carried out a search of his residence.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the search was futile. After the search, Police briefly detained him at Kira Police before transferring him to Central Police Station Kampala for the night.

Ugandan Exclusive can confirm that the operations have been carried out by the Parliamentary Police. Burora, who hasn’t yet been produced in court, is facing trouble for allegedly disturbing the peace of the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

A file was sanctioned for him with charges of hate speech and malicious information under the Computer Misuse Act as amended in 2022.

At the beginning of the year, a number of digital activists from Agora and Public Square launched an online exhibition of Parliament. Following over a month of this, Burora was suddenly fired from his role as Deputy RCC. He attributed his dismissal to the Speaker fighting him for his activism.

Speaking to the media at CPS on Tuesday evening, Burora’s lawyers confirmed the Speaker’s influence in his arrest.

“He informed me that the Speaker wants him behind bars. This is because of the anti-corruption campaign he has been running against Parliament. I am wondering why the Speaker would behave in such a way to the extent of arresting someone who speaks about her.” said Kamukama, Burora’s lawyer.

Herbert Burora is expected to appear in Buganda Road Court on Wednesday, 3rd July.
