Dr Kizza Besigye Goes Missing In Kenya
Ugandan opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye has been reported missing in Nairobi, Kenya, raising alarm among his supporters and allies.
Several officials from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have revealed that they have been unable to contact him since Saturday, November 16.
According to Daily Monitor, Besigye was last seen at an apartment at the Riverside Drive in the affluent neighborhood of Westlands, Nairobi, where he had reportedly traveled for a meeting with unidentified individuals.
His disappearance comes amid heightened tensions following the recent arrest of several FDC officials in Kenya.
Ingrid Turinawe, a former leader of the FDC Women’s League, suspects foul play.
“This kidnap will not leave you in your usual comfort zones. Just be rest assured you must handle him with care and make sure you produce him when he is alive!” said Turinawe.
Besigye, a former presidential candidate and staunch critic of President Yoweri Museveni, recently co-founded the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
The group emerged after internal disputes within the FDC over the management of party affairs.
Besigye’s disappearance poses a significant challenge to the nascent political organization, which is yet to issue a formal statement.
The arrest of FDC officials in Kenya months ago has further complicated the situation.
Political analysts suggest these events could indicate escalating pressure on Ugandan opposition figures operating in neighboring countries.
It remains unclear if Besigye planned to contest the 2026 presidential election under the PFF ticket.
His disappearance has prompted widespread concern, with supporters calling for his safe return.
Authorities in both Kenya and Uganda have yet to comment on the incident.
