On Monday, February 1, Minister Janet Kataha Museveni is set to officiate the Senior One selection exercise, extending until Tuesday, February 2. During this event, numerous secondary schools, especially the established institutions, will be seeking candidates who excelled in exams with Aggregate scores between 4 and 8.
The traditional giants, including both government-aided and private schools, will focus on academic performance at the Ordinary Level (Uganda Certificate of Education or UCE). Over the past decade, schools like Uganda Martyrs SS, Namugongo, maintained a remarkable record, with all 359 students passing in Division One last year. Notably, 26 candidates achieved a perfect score of 8-in-8, while 16 scored 9-in-8, and four attained a flawless 10-in-10.
Similarly, St. Marys’ Secondary School, Kitende, had 452 candidates out of 492 passing in Division One, with 12 achieving an outstanding 8-in-8. Other high-performing schools include Kings College, Budo (Wakiso), MaryHill High School (Mbarara), Mt St Mary’s Namagunga (Mukono), Naalya Secondary School, Namugongo, St Mary’s College, Kisubi, Kibuli Secondary School, Mandela Secondary School (Hoima), and Seeta High School.
According to the 2022 Uneb UCE ranking, there were additional schools with fewer than five students scoring 8-in-8 aggregates, but still attaining a significant number of Division One and Two results. This underscores the diverse academic achievements across various secondary institutions.
