Seventy-six students at Gulu University won’t be graduating in the upcoming 19th ceremony, according to Professor George Openjuru, the Vice Chancellor. He explained that these students face hurdles such as unpaid tuition fees or incomplete research work. Speaking to journalists on February 8 in the university’s boardroom, Professor Openjuru revealed that out of the 1,414 students approved for degrees, diplomas, and certificates, only 1,338 met the requirements.
The breakdown includes 486 students from the Faculty of Business and Development Studies, 424 from the Faculty of Education and Humanities, 80 from the Faculty of Law, 88 from the Faculty of Science, and 5 from the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies. The graduation ceremony, graced by the State Minister for Primary Education, Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, will also have the 3rd Chancellor of the University, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, in attendance.
