Lawyer Isaac Kyagaba has distanced himself from claims he was involved in a gold heist worth shs18 billion against a group of foreign investors.

It was reported that Kyagaba was part of a scheme orchestrated  by Ugandan and Burundian  which also involved Oyztar Minerals Company Limited, a  Ugandan-based company accused of defrauding Indonesian and Emirati investors..

However, in a statement , Kyagaba’s lawyers of Kirunda and Company Advocates said contrary to the reports , he was never involved in the said heist.

“He did not orchestrate any fraudulent scheme, neither is he implicated in one. Mr. Kyagaba has not at any time received the sum of $500,000 from PT HRTC Exploration and Production (PT HRTC) for any gold transaction as the story alleges,” the statement says.

“He did not issue any Customs Declaration Form from the Uganda Revenue Authority, genuine or highly questionable, relating to the alleged gold transaction, to any party at any time.”

According to his lawyers, although Kyagaba represents the proprietors and promoters of the parent company of PT HRTC, the company that  lodged a complaint with the Uganda Police, none has complained against him.

“The story and any references to our client are misleading and deliberately calculated solely to injure our client’s reputation. At no time did anyone from any  online media outlet make any effort to contact Mr. Kyagaba to verify any of the outlandish material that they have published to the global audience that the Internet offers. All references to Mr. Kyagaba in the said article are as patently false as they are contemptible and disdainful. ”

“ On the contrary, the owners of PT HRTC have issued an unequivocal statement denying any such allegations and clearing our client’s name.”

Another statement by PT HRTC issued on March, 14 has also shed light on the matter, insisting that lawyer Kyagaba was never involved in the matter.

The company said the claimed that lawyer Kyagaba received $500,000 without remitting it to authorities and that he presented a fake customs declaration “are completely false, misleading, and defamatory.”

“Neither Isaac Kyagaba nor Dentons has received any such funds as alleged. Isaac continues to provide legal counsel to PT HRTC Exploration and Production and its sister entities on key transactions that will bring significant value to the company and its partners, including Uganda,” the company statement said.

It urged the public to disregard the reports but also called upon law enforcement agencies “to investigate the source of these malicious allegations and take appropriate action against those responsible.”
