LRA Rebel Kony’s Family Want To Meet President Museveni

The family of Lord Resistance Army commander Joseph Kony is seeking a second meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, expressing concerns over their continued poor living conditions. This request comes less than three months after the initial meeting at State House Entebbe, during which the president pledged support for their rehabilitation.

Ssalongo Ali Kony, a former LRA commander who defected in 2022, highlighted the president’s commitments to rebuilding his army career and assisting his elder brother in securing employment during their first encounter. However, since September, attempts to reach the meeting coordinators have proven futile, raising concerns about the unmet promises.

Kony’s wife, Cicilian Akullu, emphasized the family’s ongoing struggles to provide for their children’s basic needs and education expenses. She urged President Museveni to grant them another opportunity to present their challenges, emphasizing the importance of addressing the difficulties faced by those transitioning out of captivity as a signal for others contemplating defection from the LRA.
