Male Deogratius : Editor in Chief Hoima Post attacked, beaten by unknown thugs

The editor in chief of this news website, Hoima post also a renowned senior journalist who as well works with Metro fm Male Deogratius alias Omusawo Tintah was on Monday night at around 10pm attacked and badly beaten by unknown thugs near his home at Kubadongo, Salama road, Makindye Division Council, Kampala Capital City Authority.

Male was quickly rushed to Good Samaritan clinic, Makindye,, where is nursing wounds and receiving treatment.

Speaking to Male on visiting him on his hospital bed male had difficulties in breathing. He told us that the goons who didn’t make away with anything kept asking why he advocates for human rights and LGBTQ rights on his website “www.hoimapost.co.ug

“They cautioned me to stop writing such stories and advocating for their rights failure to adhere they will endanger me and my entire family since they have every bit of detail of him and his family.” Said Male

Male says that he has on several occasions been receiving threatening text messages from unknown numbers instructing him to abandon the advocacy for Human rights and LGBTQ rights.

He is apparently having breathing difficults, pain in the back, head and hands and still admitted at Good Samaritan clinic, Makindye.

It should be noted that Anti Homosexuality law enacted in May 2023 punishes consensual same-sex relations with life imprisonment.

The law has potential ramifications for the press beyond issues with sourcing. Anyone convicted of printing, broadcasting, or distributing material “promoting or encouraging homosexuality” could be imprisoned for 20 years.

In the same way, Uganda Journalists Association UJA through its spokesperson Kabuye Ronald has condemned the attack on the journalist and hence called upon the police authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprit to book.

“What was occasioned on journalist Male Deogratius alias Omusawo Tintah is not only criminal but a clear violation of press freedom under Article 29 and 40 of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.

We therefore, strongly condemn such attacks on press freedom and demand that the suspects be brought to book immediately. “Said Kabuye Ronald.

The barbaric incident comes at the backdrop of a number of journalist’s tortures especially from security organs and the general public.

Male Deogratius alias Omusawo Tintah is a renowned journalist, entrainment radio presenter, passionate about the matters of human rights and keen on matters of national importance.
