In response to Universal Music Group’s recent threat to remove its artists’ music from TikTok due to a contract dispute, Muni Long has voiced her disapproval of the potential decision. Taking to social media, the artist made it clear that she prefers her music to remain on the popular platform and expressed frustration over the situation.

In a video clip shared on her social media, Muni Long appears visibly frustrated as text alongside the audio reads, “Universal Music Group said, ‘That song. Y’all know which one I’m talking about. Wrap it up by the weekend.'” Long accompanied the clip with a caption that emphasized her discontent with the situation, highlighting the challenges faced by artists in the industry.

In the ongoing contract dispute, UMG demanded fair compensation for artists and aimed to address concerns related to “protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI” and other issues. Unfortunately, TikTok and UMG were unable to reach an agreement, leading to the potential removal of UMG artists’ music from the platform.

TikTok responded to UMG’s threat with a statement, accusing the music group of prioritizing their own interests over those of artists and fans. The statement expressed disappointment in UMG’s actions, emphasizing that TikTok has successfully reached “artist-first” agreements with every other label and publisher.

The statement read, “Despite Universal’s false narrative and rhetoric, the fact is they have chosen to walk away from the powerful support of a platform with well over a billion users that serves as a free promotional and discovery vehicle for their talent.”
