NUP Launches Nationwide Drive for Membership Registration
The National Unity Platform party has today at its headquarters in Makerere, Kavule launched the mega nationwide membership registration drive aimed at enrolling its supporters into the national register.
The launch was officiated by the party president H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine amidst a congregation of district registrars, NEC members, Members of Parliament and party leaders.
While launching the drive, the party president rallied the registrars to refrain from corruption as this would compromise their integrity and trust within their communities.
He furthermore launched the nationwide membership registration drive and urged the registrars to embrace the initiative.
“I hereby launch the nationwide membership registration drive, and let’s get to work,” he said.
In a demonstration of the launch, he signed a gigantic rebranded party membership card containing the new address of Makerere Kavule, an upgrade from the traditional Kamwokya home.
All top notch party leaders addressed the attendees; notably the president H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, the party treasurer Counsel Benjamin Katana, the Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, secretary for mobilization Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu and the Leader of the Opposition Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi.
In his address, the party Treasurer Benjamin Katana emphasized a trio of things where he rallied NUP members to work with humility.
“We are not going there to fight for space, who is bigger or who is smaller, but also understand that all of us regardless of the duties assigned by the party, we are all on the same page. While we play our roles, we should appreciate the efforts of other people,” he said. “A good commander is not one who shoots well, but one who organizes his troops well,” he added.
He said membership will be premised on one’s presence in the national register, not on popularity. He lastly said the party membership cards will be sold at an affordable price of UGX 1,000 which would then be remitted back to the party Secretariat.
“A revolutionary organization must be built on principle of integrity, transparency and accountability,” Katana emphasized.
He spoke about discipline as a core principle for the revolution.
“Discipline entails that we capture accurate information. If you’ve registered 10 or 20 people and you’ve collected UGX 20,000. And a member gives you 100k for a membership card, don’t cheat such a person but refund back his/her money,” he said.
The Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya informed the congregants that the entire country was well represented at the event as all district registrars had been invited.
“We are launching the nationwide membership registration drive. The president is here to launch it. The exercise is to give members an opportunity to join the National Unity Platform party. Only registered party members would be allowed to participate in internal democracy of the party. They are the only ones who will be allowed to compete for party structures,” he said.
He added that the roadmap would also be launched to guide on the structure formation.
“We shall have structures right from village level, parish level, sub county, constituency and district in the whole country and that is why we are having leaders from various parts of the country,” he added.
The LoP Joel Ssenyonyi asked registrars to be exemplary leaders and ambassadors of the party in all aspects.
“Be exemplary leaders who give the party a befitting picture. Be disciplined and have integrity; don’t cheap people. Let you be different. Let it be you fighting for the voiceless,” he said. “People should see a real image of a credible government. It is you to market NUP to the farmers, traders, vendors and so forth,” he said.
He also asked the registrars to be active in their jurisdictions. “The cameras have seen you. They will come to you to compromise you but please be active. We’ve seen comrades betraying the struggle for peanuts but in the end they return to decry how they’ve been cheated. These people are only after using you and dumping you,” he said. “Their promises are never fulfilled. Our hope is that you don’t sell the people and your future,” he added.
The two day event ended with a luncheon served to all congregants who later disembarked to their respective jurisdictions.
The president commended our partners dubbed the ‘Friedrich Naumann Foundation Africa’ for facilitating the event.
