The National Unity Platform (NUP) is in mourning following the violent murder of one of its dedicated activists, Nimusiima Anselm, in Katenga, Mitooma District. The tragic incident occurred on Friday night, leaving the community and party members in shock and grief.

Nimusiima, a 28-year-old boda-boda rider from Ishaka town, was reportedly lured into a trap by an individual posing as a passenger. Upon reaching a secluded spot, he was ambushed by accomplices who strangled him and inflicted fatal injuries with sharp objects.

According to NUP teams on the ground, Nimusiima had been receiving threats for his open affiliation with the People Power movement and the NUP, expressed through his dress code and activism. His murder is a grim reminder of the dangers faced by those who stand up for their beliefs in the struggle for a better Uganda.

In a statement, the NUP leadership expressed profound sorrow over the loss of another young activist. “At only 28 years of age, Nimusiima joins the many comrades violently murdered for their commitment to our struggle,” the statement read. The NUP called attention to the ongoing pattern of violence against its members, referencing past cases such as Lochoto Ambrose Machete, Ritah Nabukenya, and Dan Kyeyune.

While the party noted the lack of police interest in investigating these politically motivated killings, it remains hopeful that justice will eventually prevail for all victims of such heinous crimes.

The NUP reiterates its call for peace, justice, and accountability, as it continues to fight for a better and more just Uganda.
