Proceedings are underway at the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court for the mention of a case in which National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, is facing terrorism-related charges.

Speaking to journalists at the court premises, Hon. Kivumbi said he remains resolute, drawing strength from what he described as the politically motivated nature of the charges against him. He maintained that the accusations are trumped up and intended to divert public attention from what he termed the killings of innocent NUP polling agents.

“These charges do not weaken me,” Kivumbi said. “They only confirm what we have long known—that this is a cover-up meant to shield those responsible for the murder of our innocent polling agents.”

Supporters and party officials gathered at the court echoed calls for justice and accountability, insisting that the case is part of a wider pattern of intimidation against opposition figures.

The court is expected to issue further directions on the matter as legal proceedings continue. NUP leaders have vowed to pursue both legal and political avenues to challenge the charges and demand accountability for election-related violence.

The case remains under mention.
