Organizations Suspected of Promoting LGBTQI Activities Gripped by Fear

Some organizations in Uganda, especially those engaging in youth activities are being witch hunted, suspected to be promoting LGBTQI+ activities and recruiting, supporting opposition parties mostly National Unity Platform – NUP.

We have got information that
employees of Miss Tourism Kigezi Initiative and relatives of Founder members were arrested by state operative and since their arrests none knows their where about. These arrests happened between August and September this year according to reliable sources.

We spoke to the company lawyer Isaac Ivan Kwehangana and said they have tried to look for those arrested Arthur Niwagaba, Babirye Bridget all residents of Kira, in Wakiso District and there where about are unknown.

Also arrested was Asimire Agnes who was taking care of the home of thw founder and Managing Director Ms. Emily Clare Atwongyeire along Entebbe road. Atwongyeire was not present home at the time of arrest believed to have been on holiday at a destination we will not disclose for security related reasons.

Before she traveled, rher lawyer told us that in April this year 2023 she was summoned at police in the area, with regards to activities of the organization.

The Lawyer said the initiative was promoting and empowering both girls and boys in Kigezi Region and it’s unfortunate on what is happening now to the organization and families of these young boys and girls.

According to one employee who asked for the Vail of anonymity because of the security reasons, many youth who went through the initiative have benefited a lot.

“We have seen many of the people benefit. Why do we get to a point where the state infringes on our right to do the work, live as we want?” The source asks.

Girls and boys that went through the organization many have benefited alot that they started their own business, projects, traveled abroad to participate in global beauty competitions, among other income generating activities. Our reporter is following up this matter and yet to get more information
