Parliament Demands Government Accountability Over Abducted NUP Members

Parliament has tasked the Government to account for the whereabouts of the alleged kidnapped members of the National Unity Platform-NUP.
The directive followed a report by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi who informed Parliament that seven NUP members had been abducted by unknown individuals and taken to undisclosed locations.
Ssenyonyi further stated that the party leadership had attempted to intervene by reporting the matter to the police, but authorities denied any involvement in the arrests.
In response, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among instructed the Government, through the Deputy Attorney General, to provide a full account of the missing individuals by Tuesday next week.
This comes after the NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu revealed on Wednesday that four members of the NUP Election Management Committee reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen were being held incommunicado at the Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), formerly known as the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) at Mbuya, Kampala.
The individuals were reportedly kidnapped on the evening of February 18th, 2025, as they were returning from a burial in Rakai district.
The alleged abducted members include; Mercy Walukamba, Alex Rovans Lwanyaga, Rahma Juma, and Eddie Kayabura.
