Born on December 4, 1983, in the Arua District of Uganda’s West Nile sub-region, Okuyo, the son of the late Lt.Colonel Gabriel Francis Atiku and Yema Drakuru Atiku, demonstrated early artistic inclinations. Raised in a military family due to his father’s profession, Joel began honing his acting skills at a young age, showcasing his talent in school performances and later auditioning for major film roles.

He acquired a Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration (BSWSA) degree from Uganda Christian University while involving himself in various pursuits, displaying an array of skills in acting, cinematography, and social work.

Versatile Professional Career
Joel has enjoyed a rich and diverse career, featuring performances in numerous domestic and international films and TV productions. Notably, his big break came in 2007, portraying the Devil’s reincarnation in the popular Ugandan film, “Battle of the Souls,” directed by Matt Bish. He has collaborated with esteemed filmmakers such as Michael Landon, Jr., Gabriel Range, Adrian McFarlane, and more, lending his talent to several international projects and domestic productions.

His ventures expanded beyond acting. Joel ventured into teaching and held positions as a lecturer at Makerere University and Uganda Christian University. He also ventured into photography, creative writing, and radio production, showcasing a broad skill set that reaches far beyond the entertainment industry.
