Roke Telkom Empowers Kampala’s Kosovo Slum with ‘Roke Gives Back 2023’ Initiative

Roke Telkom successfully concluded the ‘Roke Gives Back 2023 edition’ with a visit to the Kosovo slum in Lungujja, Lubaga Division, Kampala City, where they generously donated various household items to beneficiaries of the Watoto Wasoka Foundation NGO.

The team not only made donations but also organized a thrilling mini-tournament engaging the Watoto Wasoka youngsters, recognizing outstanding performers with gifts. To further support the community, the Roke team prepared and served lunch to the participants, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and support.

In addition to these generous acts, the Roke Telkom team rolled out and installed new Rokespots in different locations within Kosovo. This move aims to provide faster and more accessible internet to the residents, addressing the challenges of poor internet connectivity in the area.

Francis Mugoya, the CEO of Watoto Wasoka, expressed immense gratitude to Roke Telkom, highlighting the substantial impact of their visit on the slum. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness and how it significantly contributes to disease prevention, especially in the context of challenging living conditions in the area.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the community, Mugoya pointed out the critical role slum life plays in shaping the youth during their formative years. He recognized Roke Telkom’s involvement as a promise for a better future beyond Kosovo, particularly for the young residents.

Edwin Kyambadde Musoke, the Chief Financial Officer at Roke Telkom, commended Watoto Wasoka for their impactful work in slums. He praised their efforts to promote talent and provide hope to talented youth in the community, emphasizing the significance of extending a helping hand in different areas.

The Roke Telkom team encouraged residents to maintain clean surroundings, highlighting its role in disease prevention and averting natural hazards like flooding.

The Kosovo LC3 Councilor, Kasule Haruna, expressed gratitude for Roke Telkom’s engagement with youth in the slums, recognizing the positive influence of such corporate visits in inspiring the children to strive for a brighter future.

One of the Watoto Wasoka beneficiaries, Owen Walusimbi, thanked Roke Telkom for their support and encouraged fellow youth to persist in their pursuit of a better tomorrow.

‘Roke Gives Back’ focuses on identifying and aiding different needy communities across the country, shedding light on the challenges faced by the less privileged in Uganda. This year, the initiative benefitted over 800 children and adults in various locations, including Bless A Child Foundation in Mbarara City, Gulu Primary School’s Blind section in Gulu City, and the Kosovo Slum in Kampala City.

Since its establishment in 2009, Watoto Wasoka has worked as a football-based NGO, identifying and training young talent in Ugandan slums, impacting the lives of over 2,7000 slum boys and girls in the country.
