Former Rubaga Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Herbert Anderson Burora, has been charged and remanded to Luzira prison for promoting hostility against Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Among.

Burora was arrested from his home in Kigowa, Ntinda, on Monday and spent a night at Kira Road Police Station, from where he was transferred to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.

He was brought before Buganda Road Court today and charged with, among other things, degrading the person of the Speaker of Parliament.

The Buganda Road Court magistrate, Ronald Kayinza, read charges against him.

“Anderson Burora Hebert between March 2024 and June 2024 in the areas of Kampala District or thereabout, while using a computer via X handle “@harderHB”, shared information that is likely to ridicule, degrade, demean, and promote hostility against a person to wit Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of Parliament, of the Republic of Uganda,” Kayinza read the charges against Burora.

However, Burora pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Kayinza then remanded him to Luzira prison, from where he will be brought back to court on July 9, 2024.

Burora’s lawyers, led by David Kamukama, also denied the charges against their client and accused the prosecution of not being clear on the charges against him.

“This charge sheet should have some facts about what was carried out, not the consequential conclusions by the prosecution. No single word of what was uttered is being raised in this charge sheet,” Kamukama told the court.
