Subject: Urgent Alert to NUP Party and Its Supporters
Clinton Mirrors – Dear NUP Party Members and Supporters,
We are writing to bring your attention to a matter of utmost importance regarding the safety and security of NUP bloggers and activists. Recent reports from Clinton Publications have revealed alarming activities during the NUP national tour that demand our immediate attention.
Drones Used for Surveillance: During the NUP national tour, it has come to our attention that drones were deployed to surveil our gatherings and activities. These drones were allegedly used to gather information about active bloggers who have been outspoken in their support of our party.
Targeting of Bloggers: Disturbingly, there is credible evidence suggesting that President Museveni’s security operatives are actively targeting NUP bloggers. These individuals, who have been instrumental in disseminating information and mobilizing public opinion, are facing increased threats to their safety and well-being.
Historical Context: This is not an isolated incident. We must remember the history of Mr. Museveni’s tactics, which include not only planting fake bombs to intimidate opposition party leaders during campaigns but also abducting and making opposition mobilizers disappear. This pattern has been documented since 2006, and it is vital that we remain vigilant.
Our Call to Action:
- Stay Informed: We urge all NUP members and supporters to stay informed about the situation and exercise caution in your online activities.
- Heightened Security: Those who actively engage in blogging and online activism must take additional security measures to protect their identities.
- Document and Report: If you witness or experience any incidents of harassment, intimidation, or threats, please document them and report them to the relevant authorities and NUP leadership.
- Solidarity: Now, more than ever, we must stand in solidarity with our fellow activists and bloggers. Together, we are stronger.
International Attention: We also call upon the international community to closely monitor the situation in Uganda and exert pressure on the government to respect democratic values and human rights. The safety of opposition members and activists is paramount, and we must ensure their protection.
In conclusion, we cannot underestimate the seriousness of the threats facing NUP bloggers and activists. The NUP party and its supporters have shown remarkable resilience and determination in the face of adversity. We must continue to do so, united in our commitment to a democratic and just Uganda.
Stay safe, stay strong, and let us stand together for the future we believe in.
