The 3rd NUP / People Power Convention August 11th – 13th, 2023
I am delighted to share with you the exciting news about the upcoming NUP-DC 2023 People Power Convention in Washington, D.C., a groundbreaking event that will redefine US-Uganda relations and champion the cause of governance and democracy in Uganda.
Taking place from August 10th to 14th, 2023, the convention will be hosted in the capital city of the United States, a place of immense historical, cultural, and political significance. Washington, D.C. is home to the three branches of the federal government, the White House, the Supreme Court, and the Capitol Building, making it an essential world political capital.
Under the theme “Re-thinking the US-Uganda Relations,” our mission is clear: to reshape foreign policies and foster a harmonious balance between national interests and the aspirations of the Ugandan people, emphasizing democracy, good governance, and human rights.
I am thrilled to inform you that NUP leadership, Congress, the State Department, think tanks, civil society organizations, the World Bank, the IMF, scholars, and numerous other influential stakeholders will be present at the convention. Together, we will engage in powerful dialogues that will fuel the flames of change and amplify our collective voice, demanding transformation in Uganda.
The intellectual wealth of our National Unity Platform Diaspora USA Chapters will be showcased, with each presenting enlightening papers on the convention theme. Their diverse perspectives and profound insights will challenge conventions and inspire fresh thinking on US-Uganda relations.
This convention is not just about discussions—it is a crucible for leadership excellence. Our captivating leadership training session will empower leaders like us with conviction and vision. We will engage in spirited policy debates, where ideas will clash, and innovative strategies will emerge, forging a path towards meaningful change for Uganda’s future.
In addition to the thought-provoking discussions, we will also take impactful action. I am particularly excited about the 2K run, a heartfelt endeavor to raise funds for the children affected by the Museveni government’s atrocities. Together, we will stand in solidarity, ensuring that no victim is forgotten, and that our struggle for change reaches every corner of Uganda.
Moreover, we will be treated to world-class entertainment, featuring sensational artists from Uganda and the Diaspora. Alongside the entertainment, we will enjoy a delightful boat cruise, witness a fierce soccer game between Uganda delegates and the Diaspora, and partake in an uplifting interdenominational prayer service.
Our annual general meeting will provide us with a platform for strategic discussions and the sharing of ideas. Together, we will shape the future of Uganda, devising plans and forging alliances that will spearhead the transformation our nation deserves.
