Arua City Engineer Charles Omona Released on Police Bond After Refunding Embezzled Funds

Arua city engineer, Charles Omona, has been granted police bond following the repayment of over Shs 28 million, which he was accused of embezzling.

Omona was apprehended by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) for allegedly diverting Shs 56 million from Arua City’s Treasury single account to an imprest account, withdrawing it in cash.

According to SHACU, the funds intended for road rehabilitation and maintenance of department vehicles were misappropriated for personal use, including addressing Omona’s domestic issues.

While some suspects remain at large, Omona’s release on police bond came after his wife settled a balance of Shs 23.6 million.
