Hon Ssemujju Nganda Confronts Minister Muhwezi on Human Rights Violations In Uganda
In a heated session in Parliament, Honorable Ssemujju Nganda confronted Minister of Security Jim Muhwezi regarding the escalating concerns over human rights violations in Uganda. This clash centered around the recent arrests and alleged torture of opposition members, particularly those from the People’s Front for Transition (PFF) party.
Ssemujju, along with fellow MPs Francis , raised alarming reports of their own arrests while delivering a petition to the Kenyan Embassy. He emphasized the government’s failure to address the kidnappings of 36 PFF members and the coercion of others to plead guilty to offenses they did not commit.
The Minister of Security’s responses were met with skepticism as Ssemujju demanded accountability and a transparent update on the situation of political prisoners. He highlighted the Constitution’s provisions for fair trials, urging the government to adhere to legal norms rather than resorting to military tribunals.
As tensions rise, the issue of human rights in Uganda remains a contentious topic, with calls for immediate action and protection for opposition members being voiced in Parliament. The dialogue underscores a critical moment in the ongoing struggle for democratic rights in the country, highlighting the urgent need for government accountability and respect for human dignity.
