The ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Drake has reached a new level following Cole’s “7 Minute Drill” response to Kendrick’s disses. However, Joey Badass believes that amidst the current drama, people are forgetting past responses to Kendrick’s provocations.

Taking to Twitter on Friday (April 5), Joey Badass shared a simple yet powerful message: “Never Forget,” along with a link to his song “Killuminati Pt. 2” lyrics. In this track, released around 11 years ago, Joey responded to Kendrick’s shots on “Control” with a mix of hunger, aggression, and bravado.

In one verse, Joey directly addressed Kendrick’s claim of being the “King of New York,” asserting, “No escaping, you in a swimming pool of champagne… The King of New York? Ha! We ain’t just gon’ let that one hang.” His tweet seemed to imply that the current debate shouldn’t be limited to “The Big Three” but should encompass the entire rap game, including overlooked artists like himself.

While Kendrick and Joey have shared mutual respect over the years, Kendrick’s self-proclamation as the “King of New York” evidently struck a nerve with Joey, prompting his response. Although Joey was not explicitly named in Kendrick’s “Control” verse, he felt compelled to assert his own place in the conversation.

While it’s unlikely that Joey will escalate this into a full-on lyrical attack, his tweet adds fuel to the ongoing debate about who truly reigns in the rap game. As reactions to “7 Minute Drill” continue to pour in, it’s evident that Kendrick’s provocations have sparked responses from various corners of the hip-hop community, signaling a resurgence of tensions that have been brewing for over a decade.
