The reported disappearance of activists known as King Zale and BlueTick has ignited renewed concern over human rights and the rule of law in Uganda. According to accounts from colleagues and supporters, both individuals were allegedly taken by unidentified armed men using unmarked vans—commonly referred to as “drones”—in separate incidents. Their whereabouts remain unknown, raising urgent questions about due process and state accountability.

Civil society voices and opposition supporters have strongly condemned the incidents, describing them as part of a troubling pattern of enforced disappearances. Calls are growing louder for authorities to either formally charge the two individuals in a court of law or release them immediately. The lack of official communication has only deepened anxiety among families, friends, and the wider public.

Critics argue that such tactics mirror the controversial “Panda Gali” operations—methods historically associated with extrajudicial crackdowns. The re-emergence of these allegations under the leadership of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has drawn sharp criticism, particularly because he once positioned himself as an opponent of such practices. Observers warn that these developments risk eroding public trust in state institutions and undermining constitutional protections.

The cases of King Zale and BlueTick are not isolated, according to opposition figures. Over the past several years, multiple activists and political actors have reported similar experiences. Supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, leader of the National Unity Platform, have frequently alleged harassment, arbitrary arrests, and detentions without trial. Other opposition figures, including Kizza Besigye, have also faced repeated arrests, often under contentious circumstances that draw criticism from both local and international observers.

Human rights organizations have consistently urged the Ugandan government to uphold legal standards, ensure transparency in arrests, and respect the rights of all citizens regardless of political affiliation. The continued reports of abductions and detentions without clear legal process have prompted concerns from global watchdogs about shrinking civic space in the country.

As pressure mounts, activists and members of the diaspora are demanding immediate answers. The message is clear: if King Zale and BlueTick have committed any crime, they should be presented before a competent court of law without delay. If not, they must be released unconditionally.

Until their fate is clarified, the cases of King Zale and BlueTick stand as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for accountability and human rights in Uganda. The growing chorus of voices—both within the country and abroad—continues to call for justice, transparency, and an end to enforced disappearances.
