Oprah Winfrey to Interview Taraji P. Henson on OWN Spotlight Amid The Color Purple Release
The long-awaited remake of “The Color Purple” has hit the screens, and two integral figures in its creation are set to engage in a conversation. Oprah Winfrey has revealed that she will be interviewing Taraji P. Henson on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) tonight at 10 PM (time zone unclear), with the recording available on MAX afterward.
Sharing a picture of herself with the versatile actress, Winfrey wrote, “Cookie Lyons. Katherine Johnson. Yvette. And now Shug Avery. Those are the many characters @tarajiphenson has brought to life in ways only she could.” The interview will delve into Henson’s career and the sisterhood formed with “The Color Purple” cast.
However, this interview comes in the wake of Henson expressing concerns about the movie’s production. In a recent interview with The New York Times, she highlighted challenges faced on set, particularly regarding transportation. “They gave us rental cars, and I was like, ‘I can’t drive myself to set in Atlanta,'” she explained. “This is insurance liability, it’s dangerous. Now they robbing people.”
Henson requested a driver or security for transportation but faced resistance. “It’s stuff like that, stuff I shouldn’t have to fight for. I was on the set of Empire fighting for trailers that weren’t infested with bugs,” she recounted. The actress also addressed the disparities faced by Black films, questioning the reluctance to take them overseas despite their universal appeal.
The interview promises insights into Henson’s experiences and challenges, shedding light on important issues within the entertainment industry. For the latest updates on Taraji P. Henson and Oprah Winfrey, stay tuned.
