Pharrell Williams Unveils New Collaborations and Vintage Tracks at Louis Vuitton’s FW24 Show
Pharrell Williams stole the spotlight at Louis Vuitton’s Western-themed Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show by debuting new music, showcasing his multifaceted talent beyond the fashion realm. The event, held in Paris on Tuesday, featured an exclusive audience, including Playboi Carti, Quavo, Gunna, Bradley Cooper, Venus Williams, and Carey Mulligan, with longtime collaborator Pusha T making a special appearance on the runway.
As the creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear, Pharrell introduced a remarkable collection inspired by the American Old West. The pieces, infused with denim, cowboy hats, and suede, pay homage to the original cowboys, emphasizing their diverse backgrounds. Pharrell, in an interview after the show, highlighted the representation of black and Native American cowboys, challenging conventional portrayals.
Among the musical highlights was Pharrell’s collaboration with folk band Mumford & Sons on the track “Good People.” Released on streaming services, the song features Pharrell’s production and backing vocals, complemented by a Native American choir. Another revelation was the previously unreleased track “Doctor,” a decade-old collaboration with Miley Cyrus initially intended for her 2013 album, Bangerz.
Despite its age, “Doctor” resonated with the audience, adding an unexpected twist to the fashion show. Pharrell’s musical prowess was on full display, bridging the worlds of fashion and music seamlessly.
Pharrell’s impact at Louis Vuitton extends beyond the runway, with notable collaborations and campaigns. His partnership with Timberland, featuring a unique take on the iconic shoe, has garnered attention. The fashion mogul has also enlisted basketball star LeBron James as the face of Louis Vuitton’s upcoming Spring/Summer collection.
However, Pharrell’s foray into luxury fashion hasn’t been without controversy. Last year, his inaugural collection included the “Millionaire” Speedy bag made of crocodile skin, retailing for a staggering $1 million. The opulent accessory faced criticism from PETA, prompting an open letter urging Pharrell to opt for vegan fabrics in line with ethical and environmental concerns.
Pharrell’s influence continues to redefine the intersection of music and fashion, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating what innovative collaborations and creations he’ll unveil next.
