SustainAbility Solutions (SS), a renowned consultancy specializing in organizational sustainability and efficiency based in Johannesburg South Africa has successfully concluded a comprehensive two-day assessment at the Uganda Muslim Medical Bureau (UMMB). The assessment focused on three critical domains: Procurement, Human Resources, and Finance, aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and compliance.

The assessment initiative follows a prior evaluation conducted by Georgetown University earlier in June, highlighting the concerted efforts of UMMB towards enhancing its governance and operational standards. The assessment was spearheaded by Mr. Josiah Mutambiranwa, Associate Director at SustainAbility Solutions, supported by Andrew Muzava, Manager of External Audit, and Mr. Edwin Van Aardt, Manager of Internal Audit, Risk, and Forensic. Aqil Yousuf, Senior Consultant, contributed remotely, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of UMMB’s operational landscape.

Wabusimba Amiri, the advocacy and communication specialist at UMMB, initiated the engagement with SS, seeking guidance and capacity building through a benchmarking exercise within their organization. This partnership underscores UMMB’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices and improving organizational resilience.  Sr. Joweria Namakula, representing the UMMB Executive Secretary during the assessment, expressed sincere appreciation to the SS team for their professionalism and dedication. She highlighted the positive impact of the assessment on UMMB’s operations and governance framework, emphasizing a collaborative commitment to implementing recommendations for continuous improvement.

The assessment at UMMB is part of the CDC USG-funded Organization Strengthening, Auditing & Training Services initiative, aimed at enhancing governance structures and operational efficiencies within Uganda’s healthcare sector. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and organizational resilience in the region.

Following the assessment, SS and UMMB are poised to implement actionable recommendations aimed at improving governance structures, streamlining procurement processes, optimizing human resources management, and enhancing financial accountability. These measures are designed to empower UMMB to deliver enhanced healthcare services while adhering to rigorous governance and compliance standards.

Moving forward, UMMB and SustainAbility Solutions are committed to a collaborative partnership focused on achieving sustainable improvements. This includes ongoing support from SS to monitor progress, provide additional training where necessary, and ensure that UMMB continues to evolve as a model of effective healthcare management in Uganda.

Looking ahead, UMMB and SustainAbility Solutions aim to build upon the findings and recommendations from the assessment to implement robust governance structures and operational efficiencies. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to advancing healthcare delivery and organizational effectiveness in Uganda.
