Renowned music producer Timbaland has publicly apologized for his insensitive comments regarding Britney Spears, particularly in reference to calling for Justin Timberlake to “muzzle” her, in response to Spears’ memoir, “The Woman In Me,” shedding light on her past relationship with Timberlake.

The controversial remarks from Timbaland were made during a conversation with 9th Wonder at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., but only recently gained traction online, triggering backlash from Spears’ fans who criticized the music producer and threatened to boycott his music, including songs he collaborated on with Timberlake.

Taking to TikTok Live on Tuesday (November 7), Timbaland directly addressed Spears’ fans, acknowledging his misstep and offering an apology. He admitted that his choice of words was inappropriate and clarified that his intention was to make a “joke,” expressing regret for using words that could potentially offend individuals dealing with mental health issues.

“I was wrong. You know how you get too comfortable and just ramble out the mouth, don’t know what you talking about?” he stated during his live session. “But at the end of the day, it’s none of my business. I hate when I get caught slipping, too. Nobody’s perfect, but I don’t like to be in the blogs like that.”

Despite his attempt at reconciliation, some of Spears’ supporters remained unconvinced, likening his apology to a forced expression of regret without sincerity, while drawing parallels to his hit collaboration with OneRepublic, “Apologize.”

Britney Spears’ memoir, which contained numerous revelations about her past relationship with Justin Timberlake, included claims about Timberlake’s reaction to her pregnancy and instances where they both reportedly cheated on each other. Additionally, she detailed aspects of the controversial “Cry Me a River” video, produced by Timbaland, portraying her in a negative light.
