Renowned Ugandan author Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, known for his critical stance against the government, has declared his imminent return to his homeland. Rukirabashaija asserts his intention to reinvigorate his activism, picking up where he left off.

The celebrated writer faced a distressing ordeal in 2021 when he was forcefully taken from his residence by security personnel, detaining him for several days at an undisclosed location inaccessible to both his legal representatives and family members. He was charged under Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act 2011 for allegedly engaging in offensive communication directed at President Museveni and the Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba via social media.

During his confinement, Rukirabashaija experienced severe torture, a fact substantiated by images he shared, displaying extensive welts on his back and scars across his body.

Subsequently, in February 2022, following his release from detention, he sought refuge abroad. The Nile Post conducted an interview with Rukirabashaija, where he provided insights on various ongoing events in Uganda.
