UNAA’s Muvawala Found Beaten & Dumped in Buliisa After Abduction

Muvawala went missing outside a night spot on Wednesday, leading to suspicions that he had been abducted by State agents over his political views
Charles Bukenya Muvawala, the vice-president of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA), has been found in Buliisa District after being abducted on Wednesday.
He was discovered on Friday in a swamp, bearing signs of torture.
National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi confirmed speaking with Muvawala, who recounted his ordeal.
“I’ve just spoken with our comrade, Charles Muvawala, who was abducted after 1am on Wednesday and had been missing since,” he said.
“He says his captors dumped him in a swamp in Buliisa District earlier today after many hours of torture. He is gravely shaken by the ordeal. We must all unite in fighting against the lawlessness that has come to define our country!”
Images circulating on social media show Muvawala looking weak, with visible torture marks.
The circumstances surrounding his abduction and release remain unclear, but the incident has sparked widespread condemnation.
Muvawala was abducted in Nakulabye, Kampala, in what is the latest in a series of forced disappearances in Uganda.
Human rights groups and opposition leaders have repeatedly raised concerns over such incidents and called on the government to hold perpetrators accountable.
His disappearance drew condemnation from NUP supporters and members of UNAA.
UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, in an interview with NBS TV, denied any involvement, suggesting it could be a self-abduction due to difficulties faced by immigrants in the U.S. following former President Donald Trump’s policies.
Supporters and well-wishers have expressed solidarity with Muvawala, demanding justice and accountability.
