Zari Hassan revealed that as a child, she dreamt of a lavish life, walking down the aisle in satin gold with a wealthy man. However, as she grew older, she realized achieving that life required personal effort.
“I used to think I would marry a rich man and wear gold, but it’s not easy,” she shared with BBC Swahili. “When I realized I wanted a good life, I found the motivation to work for it despite not coming from a wealthy family.”
Zari, now married to Ugandan man Shakib Cham, addressed criticism about the age difference between them, stating, “The brighter side of life right now is that you get to know my husband; he’s a fully grown man, not a child.”
Responding to questions about dating a younger man, Zari clarified, “My boyfriend is not young. He may look young, but I am turning 42 this year, and he is 30 plus.” She emphasized that appearances could be deceiving and highlighted her family’s awareness of her age.
In a previous Instagram video, Zari debunked misconceptions about her boyfriend’s age, asserting, “He is not young; he just looks young.” She reflected on how people’s assumptions about her family and age might mislead them.
