“Chegutu Mother and Son Face Murder Charges in Fatal Assault on Alleged Stalker”

A Chegutu woman, Norgerty Jekeseni (30), and her 14-year-old son are alleged to have fatally assaulted Leeroy Munyanyi, a suspect accused of stalking her daughter. The duo appeared in Chegutu Magistrates Court on Monday, where the mother was granted US$100 bail. Both are facing murder charges and are scheduled to return to court on February 5, 2024.
Initially, the State couldn’t release the minor under section 135 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act. However, after the Prosecutor-General’s request, the minor was released into the custody of a guardian on January 23, 2024, following a night in custody. The court heard that the juvenile accused banged Munyanyi’s head on a cement surface, while his mother allegedly slapped the deceased several times, accusing him of stalking and fondling her daughter. The accused are represented by Unite Saizi of Saizi Law Chambers.
