The countrywide National Resistance Movement (NRM) register update exercise has kicked off with an impressive turnout of party members, displaying unwavering diligence in verifying their membership status in the yellow books within their respective villages and branches.

Led by the party’s Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, the process smoothly unfolded throughout its inaugural day. Namayanja’s visits to various registration points in Kampala and Wakiso districts saw her personally registering members in some branches, a gesture signaling the party’s commitment to hands-on involvement.

Emphasizing the critical importance of member participation in the exercise, Namayanja underlined that only those registered would be eligible to cast votes in the upcoming structure and primary elections, preceding the pivotal 2026 general elections.

Post-exercise, Namayanja revealed, “the register will undergo printing and then be presented to the people for scrutiny before returning to the national level,” outlining a transparent procedure aligned with the party’s roadmap. She further assured members that the party had mechanisms in place to swiftly address any concerns raised during the process, ensuring a smooth journey towards legitimate primaries.

Namayanja reiterated that the party is registering only those physically present, a measure aimed at maintaining accuracy in the yellow book throughout the registration exercise.

Expressing contentment with the exercise’s smooth progress, Namayanja assured that the party would possess a certified register in compliance with its roadmap. She also noted the deployment of teams nationwide to ensure seamless proceedings, with no significant issues reported thus far.

Joining the chorus of importance, NRM National Treasurer Hon. Amb. Nekesa Barbara Oundo, who updated her membership in Busia district, emphasized the vital significance of the process. “We will use the same register for our structure elections shortly,” she remarked, emphasizing continuity and coherence within the party.

Oundo urged members to ensure accurate capturing of their details, stressing alignment with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)’s records.

“I urge everyone to utilize these five days to crosscheck their details in the NRM membership register,” she urged. “Remember, this is not a voter’s register but a register for party faithful aged 16 and above. Let’s approach this as a collective responsibility, with everyone playing a vigilant role.”

The registration exercise, slated to conclude on Sunday, March 17, 2024, continues to witness robust engagement from NRM members across the nation, setting a promising tone for the party’s electoral journey ahead.
