After the release of his debut album MONTERO in 2021, Lil Nas X has kept a relatively low profile in the popstar world. However, 2024 is shaping up to be a significant year for the rapper and singer as he starts unveiling glimpses of his upcoming projects. In the past month, Lil Nas X shared a snippet of new music that signaled a distinct stylistic shift, referring to it as his “Christian Era,” a label that drew criticism from some quarters.
Critics who previously objected to Lil Nas X’s use of demonic imagery in the MONTERO music video resurfaced with disapproval. Despite the backlash, Lil Nas X responded assertively, with artists like Kid Cudi and Lecrae coming to his defense. Undeterred, he turned the controversy into a humorous spectacle by launching a website teasing a new album. The site playfully addressed Christian conspiracy theories surrounding the artist.
In a recent tweet, Lil Nas X once again shared details about his upcoming music, hinting at more developments in the pipeline. The rapper, known for his creativity and boundary-pushing artistry, seems unapologetic in the face of criticism.
The “Christian Era” controversy is just one instance where Lil Nas X faced backlash in recent months. His bold Halloween costume, featuring an elaborate tampon outfit, sparked criticism, particularly from some male music fans. Despite these challenges, Lil Nas X’s previous single “STAR WALKIN,” released in collaboration with the video game League Of Legends, became a surprise hit, amassing nearly 400 million streams on Spotify.
