Former Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic, also known as Micho, celebrated Algeria’s elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after their 1-0 loss to Mauritania. Micho expressed concerns on Twitter about Algeria allegedly helping Tanzania, managed by Adel Amrouche at the time, reach the tournament. Despite Uganda’s 2-0 win against Niger in the final qualifier, Algeria’s draw with Tanzania contributed to Uganda’s elimination. Micho apologized to Algerians and remarked on the cyclical nature of football, emphasizing the irony of their situation compared to Uganda’s in September. Micho and some Ugandans believe Algeria manipulated results to favor Tanzania, leading to Uganda finishing third. Currently, the Taifa Stars, now under a new coach, are at the bottom of Group F and need a win against DR Congo to advance.
