Law enforcement in Agago district apprehended a 32-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the murder of a 53-year-old individual over an unpaid debt of 1000 shillings.

The accused, identified as Okello Aldo Akech, allegedly perpetrated the fatal act against his victim, Okwera Tarasisto, a resident of Nyer Ikan South village. The tragic incident transpired on the 23rd of October, 2023, around 2:30 pm.

The chain of events leading to the altercation began when Akech rendered a repair service for a padlock belonging to Tarasisto. Akech purportedly requested a fee of 2000 Ugandan shillings for his services. However, upon receiving only half the stipulated amount, which was 1000 shillings, and a promise for the remainder to be paid later, a dispute emerged between the two parties.

According to Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson, tensions escalated when Akech adamantly demanded the full payment, triggering a heated argument. Upon hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the scene, and Akech was handed over to the local LC1 Chairperson. Despite immediate efforts to get medical help, Tarasisto succumbed to his injuries while en route to Kalongo Hospital.
