Buganda Premier Advocates for Embracing Traditional Leadership for National Unity

Buganda Premier Charles Peter Mayiga expressed the importance of government emphasis on traditional leadership, cultural practices, and norms as a means to accelerate Uganda’s unification and fortify the national spirit.

During a meeting with officials from the Busoga Kingdom, who extended an invitation for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to attend the forthcoming wedding of the Kyabazinga Gabula Nadiope IV on 18th November 2023, Mayiga emphasized the significance of traditional values in fostering unity and national cohesion.

Representatives from Busoga, led by Premier Dr. Joseph Muvawala, visited Buganda’s Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga to deliver the Kyabazinga’s invitation. They highlighted the aim to strengthen the enduring relationship between the two kingdoms, noting that the presence of Buganda at the royal wedding would further cement this bond.

Mayiga, welcoming the delegation, assured that Buganda was fully prepared and willing to participate in the wedding celebrations of the Kyabazinga.

Additionally, Mayiga urged the central government to amplify traditional and multicultural leadership to facilitate the integration of the nation. He stressed that instilling a sense of appreciation for one’s roots and cultural heritage is crucial to instigating a nationalistic mindset among the population, paving the way for broader prosperity.

Recognizing the support extended by Buganda, Mayiga acknowledged the investment of over Shs120m towards the preparation for the Kyabazinga’s wedding. Cheques totaling Shs114m have been handed over to Busoga as a demonstration of Buganda’s commitment to supporting the significant occasion.
