The past 48 hours have been eventful for Atlanta rapper Killer Mike. Following the release of his first solo album in over a decade, “MICHAEL,” last year, the Outkast collaborator and Run The Jewels member found himself at the center of attention with three Grammy wins. While the recognition for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song and Performance for “Scientists & Engineers” brought a triumphant moment, it was marred by an unexpected incident at the Grammys pre-show where videos circulated online showing Mike being escorted out in handcuffs by the police.
Details about the arrest were initially scarce, but it later emerged that he was taken into custody following an encounter with event security. Released on the same day, Killer Mike opted to focus more on his Grammy victories than the arrest when questioned by the media.
Now, a new development in the rapper’s life takes center stage, involving his 21-year-old son. According to TMZ, Killer Mike’s son underwent a kidney transplant earlier today. The young man had been on the transplant waitlist for three years before being moved up last year. While details about the ongoing situation are limited, this development adds a layer of personal significance to Killer Mike’s recent highs and challenges.
When addressing his Grammy arrest, Killer Mike kept his response succinct, stating, “We hit a speed bump, and then we head back to the party.” His initial Grammy win was more than 15 years ago, a collaboration with Outkast, and this recent trio of wins marked a triumphant return.
