Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed immense praise for the prowess of 21-year-old Belgian winger Jeremy Doku, calling him a “supreme young talent” following his remarkable display during City’s commanding 6-1 Premier League victory against Bournemouth.

Doku, a £55.4 million summer acquisition from Rennes, marked his debut with a stunning performance, scoring the opening goal and contributing four assists to City’s triumph.

The Belgian’s direct running and stunning contributions to Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva’s goals in the second half caught Guardiola’s admiration. He likened Doku’s finesse to the exceptional abilities of Lionel Messi, emphasizing his knack for thrilling the crowd each time he’s on the ball.

Guardiola elaborated on Doku’s fantastic opener, detailing the clever one-two with Rodri before striking a precise shot into the corner of the net. Doku’s agility and brilliant ball control facilitated Bernardo’s goal, solidifying City’s second goal.

Notably, the victory came without significant contribution from Erling Haaland, whose 45-minute stint ended due to an ankle injury, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming Champions League match against Young Boys.

Guardiola revealed the pep talk he had with Doku, urging him to exhibit the remarkable skills that captured City’s attention, especially his dribbling prowess.

Amid concerns over Haaland’s ankle twist, Guardiola remained optimistic, yet cautious about his return for the next game.

Bournemouth faced an additional setback, losing young midfielder Alex Scott to an injury following a tackle in the City box, adding to their woes on a day when City’s superiority was indisputable. Coach Iraola remained hopeful regarding Scott’s injury despite initial discomfort, emphasizing the need for further medical assessment to determine its severity.
