Jay Electronica’s bond with Kanye West runs deep, spanning from mutual respect to collaborative endeavors. Their relationship, characterized by support through highs and lows, has resulted in shared inspiration and contributions to each other’s work over the years.

In a recent tweet on Friday (February 8), Jay Electronica shed light on a pivotal moment of influence he offered Kanye West. “#truestories,” Jay Electronica began his message on Twitter, recounting an encounter when Kanye and Virgil Abloh visited him in London. “So when I was living in London, Ye and Virgil came to my house and stayed for a few days and I played them ‘FatbellyBella’ aka ‘Life on Mars’ and they eventually used that same melody line and sample for ‘Bound 2.’ Go listen.” Both songs sample the 1977 record “Aeroplane (Reprise)” by Wee. Despite this connection, Jay Electronica did not feature on the remix of “Bound 2,” an invitation Kanye extended to him for his collaboration with The Game, “Eazy.”

While there have been missed opportunities for collaboration between the two artists, such as Kanye’s intended feature on Jay Electronica’s 2020 studio debut, Act II: The Patents of Nobility (The Turn), their shared track “Jesus Lord” in 2021 exemplifies their artistic synergy.

Looking ahead, both artists have upcoming projects in the pipeline. Kanye West’s highly anticipated album Vultures has garnered attention, while Jay Electronica has teased his forthcoming album Bismillah Boys for some time. Given their formidable talent and propensity for provocative content, both releases are expected to offer profound and thought-provoking experiences for listeners.
