Dreamville singer Ari Lennox recently shared a harrowing experience on social media, recounting a medical emergency she faced after a routine birth control procedure. Lennox detailed her ordeal with getting an IUD, a form of long-acting, reversible contraception, inserted and the subsequent collapse from intense pain.

Lennox expressed the challenges women endure with birth control, particularly highlighting the hormonal aspects that can lead to weight gain and heightened emotions. Referring to the overall experience, she humorously remarked, “It’s literally giving The Purge,” referencing the dystopian horror film.

Unaware of potential side effects, Lennox underwent the birth control procedure, describing it as the most painful experience she has ever had. Despite planning to drive herself home afterward, she found herself incapacitated in a CVS parking lot, overwhelmed by the pain and unable to continue.

In a positive turn of events, Lennox recently marked one year of sobriety. In a December post, she reflected on her journey, revealing that her ritual of drinking to combat a fear of flying was a dangerous coping mechanism. She credited the decision to get clean on December 18, 2022, as a turning point, acknowledging the support of her fans and expressing pride in their shared stories of sobriety.

Lennox concluded her message by emphasizing the strength of overcoming challenges and expressed love and gratitude towards her fans, encouraging everyone to continue on the path of sobriety.
