Jane Frances Abodo, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), has officially charged Molly Katanga with murder, accusing her of fatally shooting her husband, Henry Katanga, inside their Mbuya Hill home on November 1.

Initial reports suggested the possibility of suicide, but investigations revealed a deliberate effort to tamper with evidence. Henry Katanga’s body was moved from the master bedroom to the sitting room, and attempts were made to disguise the cause of death as suicide with the involvement of the deceased’s daughter, a shamba boy named George Amanyire, and Dr. Charles Otai.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS) compiled evidence, leading to murder charges against Molly Katanga. Additionally, Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Katanga Nkwanzi face charges of destroying evidence by tampering with the crime scene.

DPP spokesperson Jacqueline Okui confirmed the charges and explained that Tricia Katanga, who was called in later, has not been charged and may serve as a witness against her mother and sister. George Amanyire and Charles Otai face charges as accessories.

The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court remanded the suspects, charging Kakwanza, Otai, and Amanyire with destroying evidence and acting as accessories after the fact in connection to Henry Katanga’s death.

During the court appearance, the accused denied the charges, and their bail application is scheduled for December 4th, 2023. The Prosecution informed the court that investigations are ongoing.

Preliminary findings indicate that Molly Katanga allegedly ordered Amanyire to help Martha Nkwanzi Katanga move the body from the crime scene. Henry Katanga and Molly Katanga were known for supplying items to government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense. Henry Katanga was a prince of the Ankole kingdom, while Molly Katanga had close ties to key government and security officials.
