Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala on Thursday. Reports indicate that they discussed various regional issues, with a focus on their commitment to fostering peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). President Kenyatta, serving as the facilitator in peace initiatives for the DRC, updated Museveni on progress made toward achieving stability in the conflict-ridden region.
The meeting also addressed concerns about the strained Kenya-Uganda relationship since President William Ruto assumed office. Both leaders underscored the importance of collaboration to address regional challenges, including ongoing legal disputes between the two countries over oil and pipeline-related matters. Journalist Mwangi Maina highlighted the discussions on Kenya-Uganda relations in a recent report. This meeting followed Uhuru Kenyatta’s notable arrival in the DRC on Uganda Airlines for the inauguration of DRC’s President Felix Tshisekedi, where President William Ruto also attended. The choice to use Uganda Airlines over Kenya Airways sparked speculation about the nature of Uhuru’s relationship with Uganda and Museveni, attracting mixed reactions on social media.
