With two decades under his belt in the music industry, Lil Wayne continues to maintain his influence and relevance. Last year, he captivated audiences with a standout performance alongside Nas on the track “Magic 3.” Additionally, he treated fans to a collaborative album with 2 Chainz titled “Welcome 2 Collegrove,” marking a continuation of their successful 2016 project “COLLEGROVE.”
Now, Lil Wayne finds himself in a new phase of his career as his son ventures into the music scene. Taking to Instagram Live, Lil Wayne’s son shared a sneak peek of his upcoming music with fans. The preview showcased a distinct departure from his father’s style, featuring a lo-fi mix and pitched-up vocals reminiscent of artists like Playboi Carti and Yeat. Some listeners even drew comparisons to the experimental sounds of hyperpop artists like 100 Gecs.
While the younger audience embraced the fresh direction, some of Lil Wayne’s older fans expressed skepticism in the comments. One comment humorously likened the music to the soundtrack of “Sonic the Hedgehog,” reflecting a sentiment shared by others.
Despite his son’s foray into music, Lil Wayne shows no signs of slowing down. Recently announced as a special guest on Drake’s upcoming tour alongside J. Cole and Lil Durk, he continues to command attention on stage. Moreover, he is set to headline this year’s Roots Picnic alongside esteemed talents such as Nas and Andre 3000, though the inclusion of Sexyy Red sparked some controversy among fans.
