Justine Nameere’s Masaka City MP Victory Despite Recount Irregularities
The High Court in Masaka has dismissed an election petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Naluboowa, officially upholding the declaration of Justine Nameere as the Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament.
While delivering his verdict, Justice Bernard Namanya acknowledged that the initial vote recount had violated electoral laws due to compromised electoral materials. However, the judge ruled that Naluboowa failed to demonstrate that the certified figures provided by the Chief Magistrate were incorrect.
“The petitioner further failed to prove that the exclusion of 1,353 actual votes cast by the electorate affected the election result in a substantial manner,” Justice Namanya stated.
Consequently, the challenge against the election outcome was dismissed, allowing Nameere’s parliamentary results to stand.
